Blue Ridge Swim Club
Since 1914, the Blue Ridge Swim Club has been a place to relax, swim laps, and have family fun. Nestled between overhanging trees and grassy areas for sunning and socializing, our natural pool stretches more than 100 yards long by ten yards wide. Unique among pools in this area, it is fed by a spring and a small stream. Because the pool water is continually replenished and only lightly chlorinated, it more nearly resembles lake water. Thirteen acres of fields and woods surround the pool area. A large playing field provides space for soccer, volleyball, badminton, and Ultimate Frisbee games.

Charlottesville Students Outdoors Club with The Living Education Center
The Charlottesville Students Outdoors Club offers high school students the opportunity to explore the natural world. In addition to trips to local natural areas over the course of the year we also take an educational and service oriented trip over the students’ spring break to an area of special significance. This year’s trip is to the Galapagos Islands where we will study the ecology of the different islands and coral reefs as well as help restore tortoise habitat by removing invasive species and replanting native vegetation. These trips are taken to both educate and inspire the students to further pursue a better understanding of the planet and their role in its protection.

Wild Virginia is a grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to preserving wild forest ecosystems in Virginia’s national forests. At the heart of our work is the desire to enhance the ecological integrity and biological diversity of our national forests and ensure they are maintained for future generations. Recent projects to protect our natural resources have focused on public drinking water sources and watersheds, non-native invasive plants in Ramsey’s Draft Wilderness Area, and road decommissioning in the Shenandoah Mountain region. A new Forest Plan is being developed for the George Washington National Forest, with our active participation. Among other issues, we are urging the U.S. Forest Service to address climate change in a serious and substantive manner in the new plan.
